Anime Earth: Ranma Nibunnoichi: Characters: Saotome Ranma-chan

Saotome Ranma-chan
Ranma is one of my favorite characters either way, but the girl half is slightly more comical^^. Although "chan" does not
directly reffer to women, it is used to reffer to something 'cuter' so to speak. Like in 'P-chan', the 'chan' in Ranma probably
is meant to make the reader (or watcher) infer that this 'side' of Ranma is cuter. 'Chan' accutually (in fuedal times) was
meant to infer that the one intitled with the 'chan' suffix was younger and beloved to the speaker. Most American fans who
have just seen the dub of Ranma Nibunoichi (and don't speak Japanese, or have knowledge of Japanese culture [not to
say that I do]) probably think 'chan' just means cute. With that said, let's acctually talk about Ranma [BTW: to anyone who
speaks Japanese and reads kanji, please tell me if the kanji for 'Saotome' at the top are correct. Domo.]. Saotome Ranma-chan
is the cursed side of Ranma. When Ranma fell in Nanutuian (sp?) at Jusenkyo he became cursed to turn into a girl
every time he was splashed with cold water. As you can imagine this causes some problems. First of all: Ranma is engaged
to more girls then you can meet in a life-time. Second: when Ranma gets back to Japan he (sometimes she) has to go to
school. If that weren't enough: he's always got someone chasing him around trying to kill him. Probably the most outwardly
rude of all the characters: Ranma acts the same in both forms. As a girl he acts like a boy^^. For instance: Ranma (as a boy)
would take of his shirt to cool down after practice. Ranma as a girl would do the same thing. Oh yeah^^, Ranma-chan doesn't
wear a bra either.
