Initially it was published in Shonen Jump during 6 years (from 85 to 91) and then it was compiled in 35 of the classical volumes of Shueisha.
The animation series
At the same time and due to success obtained by the manga, the Nippon Sunrise decided to produce the corresponding animated series, it consisted in 4 episode shifts:
- City Hunter (1987-1988) 52 episodes
- City Hunter 2 (1988) 62 episodes
- City Hunter 3 (1989-1990) 13 episodes
- City Hunter '91 (1991) 13 episodes

The Plot
Basically this is the story of a detective called Ryo Saeba hired to solve all those cases that the police would be unable to solving. However what in a principle should be a full action plot and tension finishes being converted in a crazy comedy, due to the peculiar personality of the protagonist and more concretely to his relationship to the women. And it is that in spite of be the best detective of Japan
, probably also it is the most pervert. Thus, at the same time that it is going solving each case in a way apparently efficient, he takes profit of any moment to harass sexually to their clients, because he only accepts be hired by pretty and young women.
And below a short description of the main characters:
- Ryo Saeba : Little more than to add to what is said previously, simply to comment that he always carries with him his devastating and infallible Colt Python 357 Magnum, with this gun he is able to do the most unbelievable shots.
- Kaori Makimura : She is Ryo's assistant and she doesn't suffer in no way his attraction by the women, therefore she always has a mace ready to beat to him in the head when he harass to some of their clients.
- Saeko Nogami : An attractive detective policewoman that never will doubt in using her captivations to obtain Ryo's help in the resolution of the most difficult cases. It seems that in the past there was some kind of nearest relationship between Ryo and she.
- Umibozu : He is the best rival of Ryo, an expert mercenary able in competing with Ryo in any combat technique. In the past both were faced as mercenaries in Central America.
