After
a lot of consideration, I decided to present this series, because of
a multitude of good reasons. Furuba, the “nickname” of Fruits
Basket, has been catapulted right into my favourites-list and is
presently having a fight with Yami no Matsuai for being at the top.
One
can say, I’ve totally devoted myself to the series, so much, that
I can’t
miss a chance to present it here, even though it isn’t
shonen-ai, rather the opposite.
But
after all, there are about 10 bishis in the series, and so I
couldn’t stop myself, in addition there are a lot of reasons why
Furuba is so special!

But
what is it, that makes you addicted to the cute guys and the naïve
Touru?
Just
everything…the stories are funny, humorous, but sad and
sentimental at the same time. It’s very seldom, that I have seen
such a good combination of these rather oppositional elements!

The
manga, created by Natsuki Takaya is currently one of the most
popular and most
favoured manga in Japan.
First
of all it was published in 1998 in the anthology “Hana to Yume”,
but shortly after that, the first manga was released in Japan.
Meanwhile there are 8 volumes of Fruits Basket, and it hasn’t been
completed, yet.
Of
course one did not have to wait for a long time until an anime was
created, and so the anime-series with 26 episodes did start in the
end of 2001, and became the most successful series of the last year.

The
characters are presented very much like in the manga, the quality is
super and the music just plain beautiful. In the soundtrack,
marvellous chanted pieces of music take turns with funny
background-music, the opening is a real catchy tune and in
comparison with other animes it is something rather new, very calm
and melancholic. Personally I fell in love with the series right
away, of course you find a whole lot of pretty guys and it’s
really hard to decide, who I like most. |

Therefore
the series has something to offer to bishonen-fans too, but also the
romantics and the shojo-fans gets satisfied. If you like calm and
funny series, you should absolutely have a look at it, beside the
manga, a B5-sized character-book was released,
as well as the typical merchandise of the anime, CD’s,
abundant soundtracks, pencilboards, postcards etc…
