This page is dedicated to showcase interesting articles written by fellow Tenchi fans. For now, it is only a simple collection of posts (or post) I really enjoyed reading when I browsed through rec.arts.anime.misc and the Tenchi Muyo! Mailing List. All article submissions are welcome. Oh, and sorry if you were expecting sound files that contain cool voices of Tenchi characters... ^_-

What are the ratings for the Tenchi Muyou girls? I have been wondering that for a second or two now, I thought I would post up my thoughts on the matter... On A Scale of 1 to 10...

Hm. I'm not sure about ranking the girls numerically. I mean, are you going by looks, personality, how entertaining they are to viewers, which would be the best for Tenchi to marry, or what? It might be better to just put forth their good AND bad points and let people decide.

Aeka: 10. Cute, pretty, got purple hair. She's a princess also, and has a cute sneeze (refer to OAV ep. 2). Blushes a lot (always a +). Nice skin.

Also has red eyes (neat touch), is somewhat high-strung, vain, spoiled, can't take a joke (one of the reasons Ryoko loves teasing her so much), and is a bit stiff and stuck up (although being around the Tenchi bunch is loosening her up a lot). On the flip side, is deeply sensitive, intelligent, and wants very much to love and be loved.

But then, there is the Ayeka S video...

Sasami/Tsunami: 5/8. Sasami is too, um, nah.

Young? Is that the word you're looking for?

She's kinda mischievous, as was seen in OAV ep.7 with giving the shoujou manga to Ryoukou and seeing what she would do to Tenchi. Too attached to Ryou-o-ki. + side is, she cooks. - side is: It usually has carrots in it. Also the carrot apron. Is TOO cute, sometimes.

You can never be too cute. As long as you don't get saccharine. And as for the carrots, nobody else seems to mind, and Ryo-ohki loves them so...

Tsunami is a bit like Aeka (thats why the high score), but she's too nice.

TOO nice? She's one of the most powerful beings in the Tenchiverse! She can probably blow up planets if she wants! You better HOPE she's too nice! Besides, she and Sasami are - or at least, will be - the same being, so what else would you expect?

Needed Inoue Kikuko to play Tsunami's voice, but didnt get it. Who knows where Ryou-o-ki will fit in when Sasami gets to be Tsunami's age?

They'll probably be spaceships together.

Ryoukou: 7. Very direct, pretty, green hair. Plus side is, she can be very dedicated. Negative side is, you cant piss her off without losing a vital organ or two. Plus side: She can turn into 2 Ryoukou's (episode 7 OAV). Negative side: If she's drunk with sake, might not remember a thing.

You forgot lusty, couragous, lusty, somewhat sadistic, lusty, doesn't know when (or how) to quit, lusty, wears her emotions on her sleeve, lusty, loves Tenchi body, mind, and soul, and, oh yeah, has some powerful physical appetites.

Washuu: 7. Powerful, good with computers, cute. Could theoretically make the world's largest carrot (mya MYAAA!!!). Not as good looking in chan mode. Am scared of the nurse outfit.

Well, that's you, though. I'm sure there are plenty of people who love her in the nurse outfit. Obviously has some REAL kinks in her psyche (20,000 years of living will do that to you), loves playing mad scientist a bit too much, and is manipulative to an alarming degree, but never means harm by it. Appears to be as lusty as her daughter, although more restrained about it.

Besides, anyone THAT heavily into roleplaying would HAVE to be fun!

Mihoshi: 9. Good looking, healthy tan, cute voice, has the cube. Ditzy, but not nesecarily a bad thing. I know a girl who sounds just like Mizutani Yuko. Scary with diapers. Scared of Mihoshi with children at all.

She'd probably be a great mother, she and the child would have the same point of view and intellectual capacity.

Brave, determined, a good story teller (if kind of skewed), has a big heart (she tries to stop Ayeka and Ryoko from fighting, after all, something even Sasami and Tenchi wouldn't do), and tremedous luck. Both good and bad.

Other girl: I know there is one, just didnt get OAV 12+13 yet. Oh well...

Uh, Ryo-ohki? (dives for cover as the CDA police drive by). In cabbit form, cute; in little girl form, AW CUTE; in adult form, WOO WOO WOO WOO; in spaceship form, OH MY GOD!!! Affectionate, sweet, helpful, deeply concerned about those around her (Ayeka, Sasami, Ryoko, and of course Tenchi). Easy to feed.

You do kind of wonder what the children would look like, though.

How about Ifuita vs Washu's Universe Destroyer from the Mihoshi Special?

AAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH.... *thud*

This is an easy one to resolve. Roll a d6 and read the result off the table.

die1 Mihoshi slips on the banana skin, pushes Kiyone into the chasm, Wasyuu's machine blows up, Ifurita wins.
die2 Mihoshi slips on the banana skin, knocks Ifurita's staff into the chasm, Wasyuu's machine blows up. Furious, Wasyuu takes the disarmed Ifurita apart and builds an atomic fish-frier from the pieces. Sasami wins.
die3 Mihoshi slips on the banana skin, pushes Sasami into the chasm, and gets trampled to pieces - along with Ifurita, Wasyuu, Aeka, Kiyone and Tenchi - as the #SAS# charges in to rescue their idol. Ryouko wins.
die4 Mihoshi slips on the banana skin and falls into the chasm. Wasyuu's machine explodes but everyone is cheering too loud to care. The banana skin wins.
die5 Mihoshi slips on the banana skin and pushes Tenchi into the chasm. Wasyuu's machine explodes. Ifurita wins by default as the other girls (Wasyuu and Ryouko included) lynch Mihoshi.
die6 Mihoshi dodges the banana skin. Everyone else (Ifurita included) is so astonished that they forget what they're doing and the machine destroys the universe. Wasyuu's machine wins.

Looks like it's 2:1 in favour of Ifurita.

Ryoko and Aeka -- KISSING?!?
The truth about the princess and the ghost!

As for Aeka, I've been having some really peculiar ideas about her lately. It started a while back with the passing thought that Aeka is the only friend Ryoko has ever had. Not as absurd as it sounds... Watching OAV 5 reinforced the idea. Remember the bit where Ryoko and Aeka are in the tub bitching at each other (before Mihoshi arrives)? One thing that Ryoko says after her reminiscence of Tenchi is "I always hoped that one day he'd play with me..." Well, the only person who plays with Ryoko now is... Aeka.

And that's a lot of the reason Ryoko teases Aeka. Although a lot of it is her inherent cruelty and the pleasure she takes in deflating the stuck-up princess, it remains that Aeka always responds to Ryoko's jibes, and sometimes Aeka starts the process. Ryoko is one of the loneliest people the universe has ever seen, and I'm now sure that she really enjoys the attention that Aeka gives her.

I'm also beginning to think that Aeka likes it, too. After all, she can take out her anger on Ryoko knowing that she isn't likely to permanently hurt her.

Maybe I'm completely off the wall on this, but if the gang permanently split up, Ryoko and Aeka might miss each other more than they miss Tenchi.

Subject: Color Palette

Samuel P Chong wrote:

Hmm... ok, so this isn't MNE-related, but I just realized now why I thought the TV series had better animation than the OVAs. The color palette in the OVAs sucked. =P The first Tenchi I saw was TV eps 9-12, and when I watched the OVAs, the first thing that struck my subconscious was how much darker and... colder the colors were, if you get what I mean. The TV eps had much warmer, brighter colors, and they fit much better together. Some color schemes in the OVA (like the battle with Kagato around Funaho in ep 5) made me want to puke. I think Pioneer was still learning what colors looked good when they made the OVAs. So despite the OVA animation having more attention to detail and better movement, my first impression was that the TV animation was better. Now of course, I realize that the OVAs are higher quality, but I still like the TV series' "look and feel" better.

regarding Kagato's ship, his ship is fine. The darker colors suit the atmosphere of a evil villians battle fortress. I do like TV's series color pallete, it's very bright and bold. At the end of hte OAV, like in ep12-13, the colors become very bright and bold...especially ep13. but with let's say the first ep#1, style does seem a bit different, heavy brush strokes, and dark but then again, we'er talking about the inside of a cave.. perhaps we just used to let's say that style. but even in the battle lwith Kagato which you mentioned, the colors seem dull with heavy hard strokes... I remember the ep in Tenchi TV where they were at the Jurain border crossing and they became lost in the maze. there couldn't be better color.

Sorry, just wanted to share my little revelation. Incidentally (or is that, the only thing here on topic? =), I had no complaints over MNE's color palette.

I dislike MNE's color and style of animation the least. the background were very detailed and beutiful but the characters nad stlye of movement didn't quite suite my tastes. The characters didn't seem to move liek they did in TV and OVA. Especially the part when when Ryoko pulls out her sword in front of Mayuka.. she never moves like that.

what I really like is Shin Tenchi's coloring. Very bright and very bold. I just hate it when they face fault.. they look absolutely ugly when they do that.
