FAQ

These are Frequently Asked Questions (or rather, i'm pretty sure they'd be asked frequently if the answers weren't put here ^^;)

INFORMATION ON DOWNLOADING THE MUSIC VIDEOS

Why can't I watch the Iris video?
This video is in .avi format. You need the DivX Codec to watch .avi files. Once you've downloaded and installed it, you can watch .avi files using Windows Media Player. You can also download their Playa, so you don't have to use Windows Media Player.

What service are you now using to host the videos?
All the vids are now hosted on Yaga. It's an online file sharing service (like Napster and WinMX-- except you can only share videos and pictures, not mp3s). You don't have to be a member to download the files from my webpage here. Just press the "GO" button (you don't have to type anything into the search box) and click the appropriate file from the list (files names are given along with the video info).

I'm using Netscape as my browser! What should I do?
The Yaga system currently doesn't support Netscape browsers. Yes, that really sux. You'll need to use Internet Explorer (aka IE). I prefer Netscape myself, but recently have been using IE as well. Just open up an IE window for a couple minutes and DL my vids. Most computers have IE on 'em.

It says that I don't have the proper applet.
It should also say "Don't see an applet? Click here for help" at the bottom of the window. If not, here's the link to the page with the proper software.

I'm using IE and I've downloaded the correct applet. Why is it still not working?
Yaga doesn't work on any platforms other than Windows. Very sorry, I just found out about that myself. If you're using another operating system, then you won't be able to download. I'm working on getting some FTP mirrors, so please be patient.

I'm using Windows and it still won't work!
alright, if you're still having trouble, please look at this page. It's an information page written by the nice people over at Yaga. I hope it has the answers yer looking for. If not, then email me and I'll try to figure out what's wrong.

Other Information

How the hell did you come up with the name "Fantasmic Studios"?

well, my internet alias has long been titled "arlip the fantasmic" (don't ask me where the word fantasmic came from-- it just came out of my head one day). Fantasma is the noun form, fantasmic the verb. I decided I needed a name for my little "company" so that's what I named it. Since I started using this word, I have found out that Disney has a night time parade named Fantasma (damn them, they're copying me!). Fantasmic or Fantasma have no real meaning, they're just words I made up.
My internet alias is arlip (full: arlip the fantasmic). It's the name I use for everything (and it seems that no one else has it, which is good ^^). arlip (never capitalize the 'a') is actually the letters of my RL name scrambled up. My friend made it up for me when we were reading the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey and it was supposed to be my Pernese name, but now it's just my internet SN ^^

When/How often do you update?

Basically, I update whenever I have something new to post (a new vid or origami). Since most of the items on this page take me awhile to create, don't be expecting updates every week, but rest assured that I will update as often as possible. (I'm also considering some weekly sections for my page, more on that later)
Alright, here's the thing with my website host. Ya see, I havta create all the webpages, etc on my puter and then UL them via FTP to my personal folder online. Once a day all of these files are uploaded to the main server (I believe this is done at midnight each day). As a result, when I update, the webpage isn't updated immediately. Generally I'll be updated in the afternoon or evening, so everyone will havta wait until the next day to get the updates. I'll always date and time my updates, so mayhaps you'll be able to keep track.

How do you make your videos?

Depending on the video, I use .avi files I have either ripped from game CDs or anime eps I have DLed off the internet. I hope to get a video capture card soon so that I can use footage from video tapes I own. The first two videos I made were created using Windows Movie Maker which was a crappy music video making program that came free with my computer. It allowed you to arrange video clips and put them to music, but it had only one transition and was very slow and cumbersome. After my first two videos I decided I wanted to make more so I bought Music Video Mkaer Generation 6 (by MAGIX). I wanted a good but relatively inexpensive video making prog, so this was it (only about $30-- pretty good for video making progs). It isn't the best video making software in the world, but it's good for my purposes.

How do you make your origami?

There is a more detailed explanation of this over here.

What are the words above the woman on the front page?

It says Irashimase, which means welcome. I got this neato little icon over at Anime Animations

Where do you get your background and icons?/What are those icons you have on your page?

I make many of the pictures on my webpage myself (I didn't actually draw them--I can't draw for my life-- I mean I scanned them and put them together). The icons and many of the banners on my page are made out of bikkuriman stickers that I scanned myself. Bikkuriman means crazy man; it was an anime that I watched when I was little in Japan. You got stickers in boxes of candy and everybody collected and traded them. I have quite a large collection now, and I finally got a scanner, so I'm using them on my site ^^
The backgrounds on the front page are collages that I make by hand, then scan and darken so the can be used as BGs. I cut pics out of magazines and use stickers and glue them into a notebook I keep for this sort of thing using rubber cement.

Can I use your pictures on my webpage?

Mostly, no. Please do not take my bikkuriman pictures, the collages on the front page, or my origami pictures. These are images that I took a long time to scan/create and I would like for them to remain original on this page. ESPECIALLY don't take my origami images and claim them as your own. It took me hours to create those projects and it would be just plain mean to steal them from me.
However, any of the other pictures I have on this page that I did not create originally (some of the animated icons, etc) can be used on other's webpages. All images are copyright of their repsective owners.

Can I use your videos on my webpage?

Yes, of course! I'd be honored if you would like to use my vids. But, please, DL them to your computer and then re-UL them onto your own server first!!! Don't put up a direct link to my files here! Oh, but make sure you give me credit and a link back to my page would be great ^^

How do I link to your webpage from my webpage?

I have plenty of banners that can be found over on my links page. Please feel free to use any of them to link back to Fantasmic Studios.

How did you get into anime/origami/webpage making etc?

When I was very young (about 2) I moved to Japan because of my father's job. I lived there for about 4 years before returning to America (my country of origin ^^). Ever since then I've been very interested in Japanese culture. I used to watch anime when I lived in Japan and when I came to America and saw Sailor Moon on TV I watched it all the time. Eventually I started purchasing anime over the internet and my obsession grew ^^ My joy for origami stems from the same origins.
As for webpage making, I've been creating webpages for years now, since around the age of 12. My brother taught me html (or rather, gave me a sheet with the basic commands on it and I took it from there). My pages have taken on many forms, from a random homepage to an online RPG to an anime fan site. The first one I ever made was called The Best Page in the World and was basically a collection of random stuff that I updated once in a while. I decided to make this homepage after I started making AMVs for fun and wanted a way to showcase them on the internet ^^

Where do I get more anime?!?!

(this is actually left over from my old website, but i wrote so much, i decided to just stick it up here ^^)
The amount of anime shown on television is not very much, although it is growing. Here are some ways to expand your anime collection:
- T.V.! Cartoon Network currently airs a few hour block of anime cartoons called Toonami, which includes, but is not limited to: Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, and Tenchi Muyo. On weekdays at midnight they air uncut versions of these animes, and on saturdays at midnight they have the Midnight Run, which is another two hour block of anime. Also, the Fox Family Network airs Made in Japan on Sundays which consists of Digimon, Mega Man, and Flint the Time Detective, among others. Fox Kids (saturday mornings on Fox) also shows Digimon and Flint the Time Detective, among others. Fox is also beginning to show a block of anime on weekday afternoons, which contains many of the aforementioned shows as well as some new animes. The WB has Pokemon (as you prolly know already) and some others. Paperview sometimes has anime movies available, and other movie channels sporadically show anime as well. Check local listings for times and channels.
- look for Japanese book stores and grocery stores in your area. Seriously, there are probably more than you think. You can find Japanese toys, snack foods, books, music and all sortsa other wonderful stuff.
- Comic Book and Card Stores. Nowadays, they have a special section for manga. You may also find Japanese import magazines, action figures, posters, art books, and mayhaps even videos at comic book stores. And with the popularity of Pokemon and Digimon cards these days, card stores may have anime stuff, too.
- Odd Stores. I don't really know what to call 'em: the types of stores that sell lava lamps, black lights, south park and austin powers paraphernalia, etc... They often have neato anime stuff. Right now I can think two such stores I have been to: DAPY and Alternate Universe (which, sadly, has gone out of busines ;_;)
- Blockbuster and Video Rental Stores. I rented a ton of anime from Blockbuster once, and I still wanna go back and rent summore. They usually have a small animation section, and although it's not much of a selection, they usually have well known anime you can rent. At Blockbuster they also have these no return bins where you can find REALLY cheap tapes and sometimes video games. You just havta dig thru them.
- Book and Music Stores. Look for graphic novels in the science fiction section and you can somtimes find trade paperbacks, too. Music stores often have a video section where you can sometimes find an anime tape or two.
- Flea Markets. If you look hard enuff you just might find something. Really, I found a pretty kewl anime CD at a flea market once.
- Fansubs. As explained above, they're made by fans for fans. The only problem is that they may not be of the best quality, since they're homemade, not to mention the fact that they're illegal (yes, they are!). Technically, fansubbers are supposed to give away fansubs for free, in order to make up for their illegal actions, but they usually at least make you pay for the cost of the tape. (I have never personally bought a fansub, since I have this thing against sending a total stranger money and hoping they'll send me a tape, but I once saw a friend's friend's friend's copy of an SM fansub, and it wasn't that bad).
- Friends. Get other friends into anime! Make them buy the tapes and then borrow them! Unless of course you're me, in which case, everybody borrows tapes from you.
- the Internet. The 'net is prolly the best way to get yer hands on quality and hard to find anime. You can also find other ppl who are into anime, reviews to help you see which ones to buy, and read more stuff about yer fave shows. see my links page for links to some anime stores online.
also look at Anime Episodes Search. You can search for anime to download on the internet.
- Online Storage Sites- although most require money to actually be any good, there are many online storage sites (such as MySpace and Streamload) in which people keep anime eps and vids. I have a Streamload account (the $7/month type) and I really like it. There are plenty of websites out there where you can request anime and have it sent to your Streamload account.
