3D ANIMATION:

Okay, if anything on this site can be considered a labor of love, it would be this animation...we're talking some early mornings to late nights at the 'ol computer lab. But I have to admit, putting this together was a blast. This was modeled and animated in Infini-D then put together in After Effects. The timing is just a bit off after compression, but them's the breaks. (I wish I could show you the 40 meg version, the color is awesome) And since you've made it this far into the site, might as well drop me a note to let me know what you think. (Click screencap to download, 3.75 megs)
Song: Toxygene
Artist: The Orb

SCREENPLAY:
Coming...eventually. It's almost finished, but I've been busy working on a certain website lately. Been thinking about releasing just a bit at a time. I dunno, gotta let the idea marinate.

LINX:

Dragonball:

I consider these the "big four" of Dragonball sites. They are all impressively humongously massive.

Planet Namek: Umm, these guys have day-jobs? If you want to find out about games, video releases dates, DVD reviews, episodes summaries, power-levels, MP3's, character biographies, pretty much anything and everything ever to do with Dragonball...in the world...then go here. It's the mecha of anime webmastering.

Daizenshuu Ex: Definitely a "guy" page, but always comes up with something interesting. Latest feature? An interview with Sean Schemmel (current voice of Goku). Complete with sound bites. Very cool.

The Ultimate DBZ Information Site: Any web page title that begins with the word "ultimate" better be darn good, and this one is. It's actually the first page I ever bookmarked. Isn't that beautiful? Not a lot of multimedia, and webmaster Greg Werner wants nothing to do with "Funi" updates. But very straightforward and in-depth information about the series itself. The Goku biography section is particularly impressive.

Temple O' Trunks: After seeing this page on nearly every link section of every DBZ page I visited, I decided to check it out and it quickly became my favorite. It's huge, it's funny, it's original. And it's all done by one woman. Stands out as having a bit of a personal touch. DBZ isn't all about power levels and playing-cards you know!

Ranma:

Chris Osberg's Ranma 1/2 Page: This page has got images, an episode guide, and information about the characters. But what I really like about it is that it looks neat.

Ranma 1/2 Library: One of the most organized sites I have ever visited. Lots of stuff that involves the fans. The interviews with Rumiko Takahashi (creator of Ranma) are particularly interesting. Only thing, this site will soon merge with another and start to incorporate other anime. And that's cool and all, just don't forget your "roots"...

Gundam Wing:
Actually, I don't know of any sites that are really appropriate to advertise and I honestly just realized this. The GW fans I know are very... well let's just say they focus on the "sensuality" of the series.

Escaflowne:

I haven't really spent a lot of time on-line for Escaflowne. This may be getting a tad bit too serious, but I find the series very personal and kinda don't want to taint it with any hype. But here are two sites I did find and have enjoyed.

The Escaflowne Compendium: Reminds me a little of Greg Werner's Ultimate DBZ page. No nonsense, just straight forward information about the series. It's easy to overlook all the hard work that must have gone into something like this. I tend to find many web pages a bit too flashy (Quite a few DBZ sites suffer from this). I like the humility of this site.

Escaflowne MP3's: One element that makes Escaflowne so amazing is the music. We're talking a full-on theatrical score here. Some people have criticized the "heaviness" of it, but I think it fits seemlessly. This is another site that has obviously demanded a lot of work, but you get a sense that the two webmasters enjoy every minute of it.

Cel Dealers:

There are close to 50 million dealer sites on the web. (Give or take) There are only two pages you really need, but I'll give you a few additional URL's of specific dealers who are particularly exceptional.

Internet Guide to Anime Cels: The first site you'll NEED to look at. Has a very large list of dealers, galleries, etc. (Basically they've made it kinda stupid for anyone else to have cel links other than to them). So here are my other links...

Cels.org: The second site you'll NEED to visit. The "Keep Track" section gives you a list of the latest updates from dozens of sites and the page checks for updates every five minutes. It is very possible to end up visiting this list many many times a day. (Not that I have ever done that...ahem) Also, this page can take you to the "Cels Forum" where one can ask questions, find cels, sell cels, or generally shoot the breeze about anime cels. It's a great resource and the people who frequent the forum are VERY knowledgable.

anime-cel.com: A real gem in the sea of dealers. (Oh my god, shut-up Megan!) If you are new to the cel game, this is a really good place to start. They have a large selection of decent cels for reasonable prices. They are also patient and helpful with questions.

Anime Galaxy: These guys know how to package! They send lots of information with the cel, including framing/storing tips. A good selection and again, reasonable prices!

Animanga: And I'm not just sucking up to my host. (Hi Yann!) It's the biggest dealer site on the net. If you're looking for stuff from obscure shows, go here. Chances are, Yann will have it.

Cel Galleries:
The Internet Guide page has a very impressive list of galleries, but here are some of my favorites!

Saiyan Wolf's Cel Gallery: There are a lot of Dragonball cel galleries, but I've found this one to be the most fun to look at. Her Vegeta cels are awesome (and I mean that in the 1950's context of actually inspiring awe).

Edge of Anime: I think this guy is dead. He owns cels from several series, but concentrates on Escaflowne. He actually owns my dream cel, and I only have one. I can't get in touch with him, he seems to have been abducted by aliens. SETH WHERE ARE YOU!?!??

Julie's Cel Gallery: The beginings of an incredible Fushigi and Escaflowne gallery. You would never guess by the quality of her cels that this lady is new to the game. Hats off to some of the nicest cels I've seen in any gallery, not just one of her size.. (and hey, us moderate collectors have to stick together, right? :)

Debbye's Cel Gallery: Wow, does she have some nice cels from several series. Her true love? Fushigi Yugi, and it shows.

ABOUT...well, umm...ME!:
Ahh, I'm feeling good right about now. Just popped a little Oakenfold into the D drive, got my 32oz Coke and my portable phone within reach and I'm in the mood to type. Let's dig in...
Name: Megan
Occupation: Student (I work too, but current job will only give you the wrong impression...peaked your interest, haven't I?)
Age: Not old enough to get uncomfortable at that question.

Hobbies: .Three guesses. Ok, I do have other interests. Here are some big ones:

  • ~ skiing: very fast and very out-of-bounds (This is actually why I came to Colorado, but don't tell my parents that).
  • ~ movies: (Writing, watching, and having a superior ability to critique because I went to an avant-garde film school. If you know what that means, then you better be impressed that I actually graduated.)
  • ~ music: (If I had to chose between blindness or deafness, I'd wave good-bye to color. Could not imagine a world without music. Love to go out and dance, and when I say dance, I mean take over the floor. Like all kinds of clubs, but nothing beats the glow-sticks, shiny pants, and glitter make-up of techno. These nights go way too fast.)
  • ~ writing: (The screenplay, remember?)
How I got into anime: OK, here comes the good stuff. I could say it all started about two years ago, but let's go back further, shall we? It actually started with, believe it or not, Robotech (or Macross for you hardcore fans). I grew up in BFE and we didn't have cable. But I used to go spend many afternoons at a friend's house who did. Her brothers were heavy into The X-men, Mad Magazine, and anime. So I used to ditch our make-up sessions and hang out on the beanbag with her siblings to watch Lisa and Rick. I was totally enthralled, it was like nothing I had ever seen. But no one else my age, or gender for that matter, was into it. Left unnurtured, the fascination dwindled and was destined to lay dormant until many years later...

My first run-in with Vegeta: A couple summers ago I got a bartending job at a golf course. Being the newbie, I of course was handed the very lucrative shifts like, Sunday morning. Not a whole lotta tip-money in coffee and hot chocolate. So on these rather uneventful shifts I would wrestle the remote away from the cooks and watch TV for a few hours. But we didn't have "sane people" cable service. Did you know they offer a plan that provides 40 sports channels and Telemundo...that's it...I'm serious. People who run golf-courses are completely nuts. Needless to say, I chose to watch Telemundo. And guess what anime series was dubbed in Spanish on Sunday mornings? Yup, my first exposure to DBZ was dubbed in espanol. I thought it was cute, they grunted a lot, had outrageous hair and actually changed outfits, which is a pet-peeve of mine with American animation. I picked up the series about halfway through the Freiza Saga and I really liked the main character...Vegeta. There was some "other guy" hanging upside down in a red chamber but he looked to be uncomfortable and thinking of all that blood rushing to his head made my face hurt. Summer came and went, but during the fall, I had a break between classes from around three until six. I'd turn on the TV and pass out on the couch, but there were days I'd just stare at the screen like a zombie for a few hours. On one of these catatonic like afternoons, I stumbled onto *gasp* Cartoon Network. (Sorry subbies, I'm a dreaded CN baby). I didn't know it at the time, but I actually started watching the series from the beginning. I'll admit, I was confused for a bit, I thought Radittz and Vegeta were the same person and I was disappointed to find out "rope-boy" was the main character. One day, my roommate asked me what I was watching, and before I knew it I was delving into a full-on plot summary. She walked away frightened and I realized I was hooked. From there it was websites, fansubs, cels ... and of course, other anime.

So what's my favorite anime?: Does one need to ask? Although I really like Gundam Wing, Ranma, Fushigi Yugi, and Escaflowne (especially Escaflowne), I can't abandon the series that started it all. Seriously, if it weren't for DBZ and more specifically a certain arrogant Saiyan, I'd probably actually be doing homework right now. Yeah, that scares me as well. Still, I'm constantly looking for other series to watch. Next up? Either Neon Genesis or Utena, depends on the local video store and which series is more complete. I really hate starting a series and not being able to finish it. Hence the reason for my random fansub collection. I also have to credit DBZ with much of my interest in computers. A year ago, I hardly knew how to turn a computer on, but after spending entirely too much time on-line trying to figure out the DBZ timeline, I became very interested in finding out how all this multimedia stuff works. Now I'm trying to learn how to become an animator. Pretty freaky how things work out, huh?
