The Birth of Triton Bloom
According to the Endless Waltz novels, Trowa was born in A.C. 180, the youngest member of the Bloom family. His real name was Triton Bloom and had an older sister named Cathrine. This was the same Cathrine Bloom whom we later on saw in the TV series, the one who worked at the circus.

War & Separation
Shortly after his birth, war broke out and the Bloom family had to flee from the attacking Federation forces. Unfortunately, while traveling on the carriage, their vehicle was under attack and exploded. Right before the explosion, Triton and his sister were simultaneously pushed out of the carriage and to safety. Neither of the parent survived the attack while the Bloom siblings were seperated. Cathrine was later on picked up and raised by the circus.

Life with the Mercenary Unit
Not much was known of what happened to Triton between the time he was separated from his sister and the time when he finally got picked up by the captain of a mercenary unit at the age of four. Due to the fact that he was young when separated from his family, Triton did not know of or remember his name. Thus he was called Nanashi, or No Name by the fellow soldiers.
As seen in Episode Zero comics, the mercenary unit that raised No Name was composed of all men, which was rather true of many wartime mercenary forces on the move. In the novelization of Endless Waltz, it was also mentioned that No Name had burn scars on his back that were not acquired due to combat. By the time he was ten, No Name fought alongside the guerilla force. As shown in the manga, No Name appeared to be a responsible soldier who helped his fellow companions in war. He seemed to hold respect toward the captain of the force, whom he listened to and obeyed.

First Friend
During the same year that No Name turned ten, he was walking through the nearby woods keeping watch when he met a girl who was hiding there. This was where No Name met Midii Une. At first, she appeared to be a typical war refugee, who later worked with the mercenary force by serving soup to the people there. When Midii asked No Name why he helped her, he replied, "Because we're the same." Midii gave No Name her cross as a token of thanks for helping her, but as she gave the cross to him, she added, "But you know what ...? I hate you."
As the mercneary unit moved from places to places, they eventually passed by a traveling circus. It was here that we again had a glimpse of Cathrine Bloom. By now we already saw her hatred toward war as we were presented in the comic with a brief flashback scene of her crying as a little girl for the loss of her family. Ironically, Cathrine did not see her brother as the guerilla force passed by, as she was too angry by the sight to notice.

Betrayal of Friendship
There wasn't much of an exchange between No Name and Midii. However, the comic did emphasize on several occasions of Midii's habit of fiddling with a small gameboy-looking device she wore around her neck. Later on, as No Name was engaged in yet another battle with the mercenary unit of which he was part of, he killed his companions as he saw that the captain's life was threatened. When the captain asked why No Name killed the ones who raised him, No Name pointed out that those men must have sold information to the enemies. When the captain remarked that No Name was not human, No Name replied, "I have no regrets. I kill the enemy I see before me. I'm only practicing what they taught me." When the captain remarked No Name of not being a human, he simply said, "No, I'm not. I've always been a soldier."
Shortly after, a surprise attack from enemy mobile suit destroyed the whole guerilla force. Taking Midii with him, No Name managed to flee to safety, where he finally confronted Midii. Moments prior to the attack, No Name had come to realize that the cross he wore and the necklace Midii worn were transmitters which gave enemies the knowledge of their whereabouts. Midii was a spy working for the enemies in order to feed her family. During the confrontation, No Name showed his first sign of anger in which he threw both transmitters to the ground. It was here that we saw from Midii's thoughts that she loved No Name, though she never did confess or display it in any manner. When she finally said that because of what she was, she could not even tell the one she loved that she loved him. Midii then added shortly that she was not like No Name, that she was not empty like him, and henceforth she hated people like him. Upon hearing this, No Name rebuted her and stated that at least she had a home to go to. Then he commented, "Is that all you've got to say?" He then said goodbye and pulled the trigger.
No Name did not kill his friend, rather he shot the two transmitters, the symbol of their short-lived friendship. Then, No Name joined at least one more mercenary, the one of which Ralph Kurt belonged, before eventually making his way to space.

New Mercenary Unit
Not much was mentioned about No Name's experience in the new mercenary unit until it was briefly mentioned in a flash back presented in Blind Target. According to fellow Japanese anime fans, the common age of mercenary members in anime as well as real life most often averaged from age 16 to late thirties, which meant that in this case No Name was younger and smaller than his fellow soldiers. As seen in the comic, this was again another all male community. However, No Name was portrayed as silent and closed himself off from the group. More will be mentioned later in the Blind Target section of this guide. No Name stayed in the mercenary for a few years before it was also eliminated.

L3 Colony
When the mercenary forces were completely wiped out on Earth, true to his words, fourteen-year-old No Name made his way into space and arrived at L3 Colony. There he found a job as a mechanic and from there onwards stayed and worked at the Bartons. It was there that he met the real Trowa Barton, the man who, by a strange twist of fate, would eventually give No Name the name that we know today.

Trowa Barton
The actual Trowa Barton was a man three years No Name's senior. According to the producers, Trowa was headstrong, brash, aggressive, and immature. Not much was known of the relationship between Trowa Barton and No Name except for the fact that Trowa enjoyed bothering No Name as No Name was a passive individual and was considered stupid by Trowa. It was also noted by the producers that for reasons unknown and unmentioned, No Name hated Trowa, though the former did not express it in any way.
It was through the real Trowa Barton that No Name learned that Mariemeia Barton survived, a piece of information that later proved to be important in the Endless Waltz OAV and movie. This was the scene that was emphasized numerous times - in the manga, the novel, the OAV, and the movie - where Trowa draped his arm across No Name's shoulder in an affectionate manner and said, "Hey No Name! I have something good to show you! For you only...".

Pilot of Heavyarms
Meanwhile, Heavyarms was being built within the Bartons household. It was found that Operation Meteor was in reality an operation planned by the Barton Foundations that involved dropping a colony into Earth and killing countless people on Earth. Professor S and his associate, who were opposed to the operation, killed the real Trowa Barton when he threatened to inform his family of their disagreement. No Name, who was present at the scene, eventually took up Trowa's name and went to Earth in place of the dead man. When inquired if he was going to pilot Heavyarms, he replied, "I like this machine."
