Episode 10 S Read at your own risk EPISODE 10: Between Man and Evil *narrative* "The young man played music just for demons. The young woman shed tears because of that. And, the people gave up hope and waited for the end of time." The Mazoku slowly rise back from the dead as Clari's troops stand astonished. Percuss yells at the troops to continue fighting but Guitar stops Percuss. Tied up and held by Guitar is Coronet. Flute continues to cry - placing the blame once again on herself. "Mahler's Sixth Symphony... it's about the humans' tragic fate. However, his music can also be interpreted another way. It's about the battle between good and evil. It's about a man who fought for internal harmony. One individualism. One drama. It's about his refusal to compromise under any circumstance. His mind right now is torn up between men and demons." Guitar seems quite amused that his tied up prize causes the Sforzendo army to halt their actions. Hamel stops playing. Guitar turns to him and asks why, but Hamel tells Guitar he never promised to help. His purpose is to learn about the Mazoku, and in the process, learn about man too. Coronet takes the lull as a chance to holler out to the army not to stop fighting on her account. Guitar slaps her so she'll shut up. Clari stands still, but he looks down to see Drum below him. Drum challenges Clari to finish the one on one. Clari's guards urge him to not do it, but he jumps over the wall any ways to face Drum. Clari's guards insist on coming to join the battle but Hamel plays his music and causes them to stop. Queen Horn can be heard by everyone as she speaks over the loudspeaker; listen to Hamel and not interfere. Clari and Drum will decide this battle. Unbeknownst to Queen Horn, Flute is behind her, and as Horn speaks, Flute pipes up. She screeches over the speakers at Hamel. Why is he there? Why won't he come back? She'll keep them from calling him a demon if he'd just come back! Hamel stands emotionless. Horn comes up to Flute and tells her to just watch; it's her duty. Clari taps his staff against the ground repeatedly as Guitar watches puzzled. Coronet looks on. "He's going to die." Hamel's surprised by her comment. Coronet turns to him and says that her brother will fight for all that is human; and he must watch. What Clari is doing is preparing for death. Clari lifts his staff as Drum demands to know what the heck he was doing. Clari does not respond; he slams his staff into the ground and leaps into the air. In a swift motion he charges at Drum with his power and slams his fist into one of Drum's heads. Clari continues to pummel away at the shocked Drum who has yet to do anything in retaliation. Clari lands his hardest punch and Drum is sent into the castle wall. "I see. If Tenrin, which fires magical power at an enemy, doesn't work, there's one technique, Ryusei Taihou, which throws it into the enemy!" Clari turns and blasts Drum with the power of his rune wheel. *Percuss* "Sforzendo magic is divided into three branches. Offensive spells like those by Lord Clari. Next, utilitarian spells under my supervision. And, restoration spells are ones only Queen Horn can cast. When the best magician of one branch is an opponent, even the demons' commander-in-chief would not..." Drum blasts his way out from the debris created by Clari's explosions from the rune wheel. Percuss stands dumbfounded. Clari produces the lines of the runewheel between his two palms. Drum gets to his feet, amused (and almost enjoying) the pummeling by Clari - but he is not defeated. Clari sends the lines at Drum who intercept them; Clari is caught. Drum slams Clari into the ground. Raiel puts a hand on Percuss' shoulder and asks him if they can make a deal; to rescue Coronet. Raiel then turns to Trom and asks him to return the mirror of truth to Clari, he no longer needs it. Why does everyone choose death? Coronet says it's for a smile, something her brother's spoken of time and again. To see Queen Horn smile again. Drum throws Clari into the ground again. *eye catch* Clari finally dodges a blow. He'd sworn to fight to see Queen Horn smile. As he rushes he leaves a glowing hand print in his wake. Clari finally strikes back again. *flashback - 15 years ago* Clari stands in that underground tunnel watching Queen Horn see off Reshik with baby Flute. He realized then that Queen Horn's smile had been missing. *few hours earlier than that* Queen Horn stands over Clari and Coronet's parents, she tries to revive them but it's too late. Horn picks up baby Coronet into her arms and promises to raise the two children like her own. Clari had thought back then he would never see Queen Horn smile again. *end flashback* However, if he can win this battle... just maybe... Clari charges at Drum but Drum catches him and punches him back. Clari tumbles over the ground; however, he leaves one last hand print. He pauses a moment then gets to his feet and steps back into position to protect Sforzendo. Hamel ponders the whole idea or risking your life for a smile. Following your destiny from the bottom of your heart... it sounds familiar to him. Hamel turns to Coronet wondering out loud if he can figure out his two paths if he risks his life? A blast goes off above Coronet and Hamel. Drum turns away to ready the defense but stops... he senses something... Percuss lands next to Coronet and Raiel next to Hamel. Percuss grabs Coronet and promptly tells Raiel that all deals are off and teleports away. Raiel thinks he can handle the situation by playing his piano, but Guitar steps in and stops the whole thing. Guitar puts his sword up to Raiel's face. Raiel turns for Hamel's help, but Hamel does nothing. Clari grabs his staff and laughs at Drum. Drum reacts as Clari calls the Mazoku commander a fool. Drum charges at Clari but Clari counters by throwing his staff at Drum. The Dragon King ducks out of the way and turns back to laugh at Clari, now all out of weapons. Clari smiles smugly as Drum tries to charge again, but he is stuck. Drum stands shocked as he is pinned to the ground. Clari begins to chant another spell as his hand prints left begin to light up. An enormous rune wheel forms beneath Drum. Clari places his hand to the ground and launches the rune wheel. A huge whirl wind gathers on the outer ring and picks up speed. The wind whips up into a huge tornado. Horn tells Flute that Clari's spell will seal the Mazoku into the darkness. Flute demands to know what it will do to Hamel. She tells her that it will judge his character. Hamel stands upon some jagged rubble, knowing that this will be his test. Raiel moves into Hamel's way stopping him. Hamel demands to be judged; he needs to know. However, Raiel does not let him go. Drum is slowly sucked into the ground until there is nothing left. Hamel begs Raiel to let him go, but he does not and the storm dissipates. At the edge of a huge crater in the ground kneels Clari. Guitar, who was away from the maelstrom, clings to a rock in shock. Clari's guards begin to celebrate - he'd won! They rush down to him. Clari looks up to Queen Horn's tower, looking for her smile. From within the ground launches a dragon head which grabs Clari in it's teeth. Everyone stands back shocked as Clari is held, mid-air, within the teeth of the demon. |
