The J.League is Japan's top professional football [soccer] league. There are currently 18? teams [I had thought there were only 16 teams...] in two stages and a playoff championship. There is also a  J.League Cup. Division 1 of the J.League is the highest. There is also a Division 2. Division 2 (or J.2) is the second-highest division of Japanese professional football, after J.1. Although the J.League itself (i.e., Division 1) started in 1993, J.2 was only started in 1999, with 10 teams. The top 2 teams are eligible for promotion to Division 1 (provided they meet other conditions as well). The league below J.2 is the JFL (3rd division), which is an amateur league. There is no regulation arrangement with the JFL, but JFL teams can get promoted to J.2 if they want to [and if they meet the league's conditions]. Below are the lists of teams in each Division of the J.League with links to their official sites [almost all in Japanese of course ^_~ but for those that had an English version I linked to it]
