Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D

Original
Vampire Hunter D was one of the very first Japanese animated films I ever watched; I caught in on TV on the Sci Fi channel many, many years back. I have to admit, I didn't really like it much at the time. ^^; Even so, I found it interesting, and it prompted me to watch more of SciFi's Saturday anime.
In the end, that's how I got myself hooked. So...for sentimental reasons, here's D.
Pink D. Hee.
Came as a set with the above; this is the cel I wanted most of the pair.
I find it hard to articulate just why I like it, but I shall attempt, and just hope the reader will get my drift...
I love the motion; there's just so much motion in this cel... I'm reminded of a cartooning book I once read, in which they draw out the initial "stick figures" to show the flow and positioning of the body. That's what this cel makes me think of. The forward motion of the punch, and D's solid reception, motionless but for the billowing hair.
It's also quite detailed, in terms of D's clothes; the cel is just so dark that it's hard to appreciate that. Impressive in person.

Bloodlust
Lovely little Grove picked up for a nice little price. I got this one from Original Anime Arts at Expo, along with the following two cels. I've eyed VHD cels on their site in the past, and I was impressed by the huge selection they brought with them, all for very reasonable prices.
I always liked the colours and effects from this scene, and they had a whole slew from this sequence. After much deliberation, I picked this one as my favourite.
There's more blank space off to the right on the actual cel, but I didn't want to make a second swipe through the scanner just for blank area, so it got lost.
D's Pretty Pony! I've always loved shots of D on his horsie...horsie has an awesome design. As such, I've long thought about picking up one. I got the other two cels on my first trip past OAA's booth, but before the end of the con I had to come back to get one more, and when I noticed this cel I knew it was going to be the third.
This was actually one of my last purchases at the con. I was running low on money already and wouldn't have been able to afford it at its original price, so they were kind enough to give me a discount!
There's a bit more blank space on the left side, but once again...too lazy to scan it twice and piece it together just to get some blank area.
This is where I drool copiously. Just...friggin'...beautiful. OAA had a few from this sequence, and it took me a while to figure out my favourite. The art is fantastic, the lighting excellent, and I love the layout for this shot.
Swordy-swordy-sword!
D is purty. I want his hat.
Shame my stupid, bloody scanner had to leave its blotch right on his lovely hat. Stupid scanner. Poor hat.
