Broken Bow Chapter Six

Chapter Six: Ain’t nothin’ like the First Day

“Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh I’m so gonna be late!!!!!!!!!” Kyra screamed. She grabbed her books and ran to her motorcycle, a Harley Revolution, and pushed the accelerator to Maximum power. She got there all right. In less than 5 minutes. She rushed to her first class, history, where the whole gang was (minus Mia) attending class.

Rowan looked at his watch. Kyra was late. And on her first day of school! Rowan rolled his eyes at the thought of the very unpredictable teenager. Which was exactly how life turned out to be the past few days-unpredictable. The sudden silence made him snap back into reality. Sensei Yoroiden, a strict teacher in the school looked at the newcomer, sizing her up. “Who might you be?”

“Kyra Murasaki. I’m new here.” “I see, very well now, take a seat next to Mr. Hashiba.” He stiffly replied. Rowan could see why he already disapproved of her. She was wearing black leather pants, white tank top, black leather jacket with white/gray fur collar and boots. The type of boots that are made for heavy walking in all types of terrain, from the loose desert sand to the muddy swamps.

Kyra walked over to him and sat in the empty desk next to his. She winked at him slyly. ‘There goes that awesome wink of hers.’ He thought. ‘Someone should tell her she oughta smile more often. I mean, most of the time she has this sad look in her eyes.’ Which was true, because 99% of the time she spent with them, she never actually smiled. He flashed a smile in her direction, which was replied with a small one.

“Now class, today we will discuss Japanese lore. Go to page 169, where you will find the poem of the armors. What we will discuss is which armor belongs to which line in the poem, what is the location that is most likely to be their resting place, and of course, their element.”

Kyra turned to the indicated page where the mother of all poems and riddles lay before her: Torch of Spirit sought through five, Drinking strength from immortal Fire, Darkest prison sheds the Light, Swirling beneath a Swirl of Salt, Burning within a Throne of Rock, Floating among the Eye of Ages, Un-mourned in the stream of the sky.

Kyra stroked it fondly. Here was something that was related to the remains of her past life. A nice, comforting, memory. Andrea noticed this and motioned to the warlords. They noticed this and nodded silently. They knew what remained of Kyra’s past. They all snapped back to attention as Sensei Yoroiden called Anubis to try and guess EVERYTHING about the armors, which were listed on the board. He stood up, and said:

“The first line of the poem speaks about an ancient armor called Hariel’s White Inferno. Which is made up of not only five armors, but nine, if you include the Seasonals. The second talks about the armor of Wildfire, its element, and possibly its exact location. A volcano of sorts.

The second states the armor of Halo, its elemental property and location. In this case, a cave. And the armor of Torrent, well, you would only find it underwater, and that is, right in a whirlpool. And the armor of Hardrock, well, think Mt. Everest. And Strata…don’t even go there for one thing, under normal circumstances you have to get a rocket!”

“Excellent deduction, Mr. Brokovicth, but…you’re wrong.” Anubis stared at him. The teacher then explained he got almost everything wrong, with the exception of Hardrock and Wildfire. They ended up goggling at the teacher, like he was crazy. Sage was insulted.

He wanted to ram his fist right through his stomach.  Kyra was beyond shock of all the ignorant teachers she had to put up with, this was by far the most ignorant. For one thing, she had almost fallen asleep while he was talking, and she found herself doodling a horse she recognized as…Meteor?

Rowan had found himself in the same predicament. Except in his case, the horse was Storm’s Eye. The bell rang, and they all headed to Marine Biology. Apparently they were to study sea creatures up close at an aquarium in downtown Tokyo. But things started to get weird once they arrived at the shark section.

A few girls in the class whispered; “Man, those are like, the ugliest creatures ever created.” One of them said, pointing to a hammerhead. “Totally. I mean, they’re freaks of nature.” At hearing this, Kyra walked to the speakers, who in turn looked at her. “What do you want, freak?”

“Nothing that you own, but it will do you good to stop insulting them. Animals do have feelings, you know.” “Whatever.” Was the reply. She looked at the hammerhead with an I’m sorry look. ‘The least they is congratulate the poor creature.’ She thought. For the animal was pregnant and due to give delivery…now?

The others sensed her disappearance, but Cye quickly recovered the link. He told them “Wait here. I’ll be right back.” And appeared in the shark tank.

He found Kyra in the middle of trying deliver the newborn to safety. Cye, of course, interrupted her concentration.

“What are you doing?!” “No time for that, Cye! This shark is in labour!” By that time, everyone, the whole class had gathered to watch birth take place. Kyra gave a few tugs. ‘This one’s stubborn.’ She thought.

She transferred her thoughts to the hammerhead, which were to push as hard as she could, at the same thinking of a new life with her children. As an afterthought, she added not to hurt Suiki, an orca Cye had befriended. With that, the newborn shark slid out and Kyra saw that they were the most beautiful things she ever saw.

Both people swam to the surface, and were congratulated by their teacher and the staff. They been expecting the babies to die, but after the incident, they allowed her to keep the small family of hammerheads. Sage’s eyes widened. ‘First Andrea’s wolves and now this. We have got to be the only people who own a white tiger, two wolves, a king cobra, and the latest addition: Baby Hammerhead Sharks. Oh Joy.’
