Chapter Nine: The Party
Rowan laundered his dark blue Kimono. All the while he thought about Kyra. Not that he hated her. On the contrary, they were really close friends. He didn’t know how she felt about him though, because she hid her emotions so well, and like a mask.
Rowan wanted to uncover the girl behind the mask (he didn’t know why) and learn more about her. Suddenly he smelt scorched cloth. “Oh Crap!” He pulled hard on the cord, and put the machine away. He looked at the offending burnt spot when Anubis approached him.
He looked at it, and said to Rowan; “Here, let me help you with that.” And took the Kimono. Rowan followed him close behind. What Anubis did to the Kimono was very queer. He put his index finger in the middle of the spot and concentrated.
Rowan was about to tell him off when he noticed something. The soot. It was wriggling. It followed Anubis’s finger like a tiny snake until it reached the end of the cloth, where it obliterated into nothing.
He smiled at Rowan and headed to Kyra and Andrea’s room. He shook his head. Sometimes it was best not to ask. Kyra and Andrea were trying to decide what to wear, which surprised Anubis, then he came to the conclusion that Kyra must have begged to her foster sister to wear one. She hated that. Hated it because it always worked. “Here. It’s for you.” He said handing a package wrapped in dark blue silk.
“Well, open it.” Kyra opened it to reveal the most beautiful silk dress of her dreams. It had a low red collar adorned with cherry blossoms and beautiful transparent red sleeves with the same design only they were lower at the shoulder, making it seem like she was wearing a mantle.
Anubis rushed out to get a camera (he was a photophobic) and starting taking pictures. *click*-*click*! Went the camera. She flashed a look at Andrea. She recognized as the Remind-me-to-send-him-away-when-I’m-pregnant look. “Out, out, no Anubis! You already scared her! Now go away!” and promptly shut the door in his face.
“Thank you.” Kyra said gratefully, and rushed to the bathroom. Andrea looked at her and replied; “My pleasure.” Rowan looked at himself in the mirror. He was ready. He put on his black bandanna, and tossed the ever-so-annoying-lock of blue aside. It fell back between his eyes. He chuckled. The little guy didn’t when to quit. Straightening up, he went downstairs to wait for the others.
(The guy with the blue hair is Rowan. The other guy…I don’t know what he’s doing in that picture, because I don’t remember asking to take a picture of blondie over there…Hey Rowan! Turn around and face the camera!)
Cye checked himself. He had to admit, he looked good even for an ancient of The Torrent. He headed downstairs to wait with Rowan.
Then Sage, Cye, and Ryo… Hey not bad… Kento and Dais… It’s B.C something… Cale and Sekhmet… And Finally Kyra came in all her glory When Rowan saw her, his heart skipped a beat. She was…there was other word for it, beautiful. Then Anubis came bringing up the rear.
Isn’t he the most GORGEOUS warlord you ever saw?
They proceeded down to the basement, which itself was amazing. They all took their girlfriends and started dancing. Rowan looked at her one last time before heading towards her. Soon enough, the words were out of his lips and into her ears: “Do you want to dance?” “Um…Sure.” They danced and the next song played:
He twirled her in a full 180 degrees of dancer’s outlet and knowledge. Later combined with a mix of their own. He lowered her slowly only to pull her back up again. He let her go. Kyra danced and stopped. He took her hand and rejoined the dance.
He pulled her into the swing-dance loop, a move that involves moving your partner’s body around yours with your arms like a hula-hoop. They danced throughout the whole song and for one brief moment, they were one.
For the briefest moment they saw each other’s eyes. Kyra felt like she was floating in the vastness of space, while Rowan felt like he was hit with the forces of nature and the universe. And just like it started, it stopped. Kyra, looked at him, afraid of what she just seen. She smiled—and ran up the basement stairs.
