Mia's Magic, Chapter 3 Mia's Magic: Chapter 3

"Help me, Jared!"

"Your crimes will not go unpunished."

"I'm not Morgan anymore, I'm Mia!" Images of Morgan filled Jared's mind as he continued his magic-induced sleep. Memories of almost two years spent with his beloved, and another twelve years searching for her after whole lives spent in ignorance.

The most recent memory replayed itself in Jared's mind. He had watched his Morgan walking toward her house, the boy following. A simple glamour allowed Jared to hide, but after so long he was impatient to be with Morgan again.

When Jared confronted Morgan, he was hurt and confused to learn she once more spurned his affections. Also, she claimed to be the woman most knew her as, Mia Koji.

Jared woke up as he was remembering this, and a thought occurred to him. The spell he put on Morgan when she first refused him was supposed to take effect every time she was reborn. The only way to nullify the spell without magic was if she-

"Impossible! How could she have true feelings for someone? Morgan didn't even have any real friends until she met... That's it! I'll just kill the Ronins, and she'll have no one to love but me! Brilliant, Jared, you're a genius!"

Cackling like a demented hyena, Jared went to look for the best killing spells.

Miles away, Mia was also remembering. Her memories, however, were focused on the Dynasty Wars. When Talpa had invaded, only Mia and her grandfather had known exactly what was going on. After finding each Ronin and defeating Talpa, Mia and the others had thought the Dynasty threat was over. Then she'd had to spend so much time worrying, wanting to help her friends when they discovered they were wrong.

Mia smiled as she remembered paying the guys back for causing her all that worry. She'd taken a six-week vacation in Jamaica, only calling home when she felt like it. Of course, Mia had to make sure they didn't find her magic stuff, so she had cast a glamour that showed old furniture in the room her boxes were hidden in. The guys had been so happy to see their beautifully-tanned Mia back where they could watch out for her.

Speaking of the guys, how were they taking this?

"That has got to be the weirdest thing I've ever heard," Kento said to his friends, all of whom were once more scattered around the living room. After hearing Mia's explanation of last night, they'd returned to their rooms long enough to get dressed before reacting.

"You know, despite everything else we've seen, Kento is right," Sage agreed. "This Jared guy is completely obsessed with Mia, and has stalked her through time and around the world, even though he knows she has no true feelings for him."

"I think he's just plain nuts," Yuli commented. "He looks like a model or something, but then he opens his mouth and it's like he's 100 percent psycho."

"I wonder how powerful he is," Rowen thought out loud.

"It doesn't matter how powerful Jared is," Cye replied. "We have to help Mia out in any way possible. Even if all we do is provide moral support."

"Cye's right," Ryo said. "We need to do all we can to help Mia, just like she did for us during the Dynasty Wars. It's the lest we can do."

"One thing really bugs me though," Rowen said after a few moments of silence.

"What's that?" Yuli asked.

"Where in the world did Mia find those ingredients for her spells? A lot of the creatures she mentioned aren't even supposed to exist! Unicorns, hippogriffs, vampires, they're all supposed to be myths. I find it seriously disturbing that such creatures are real."

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Everyone jumped at the sound of Mia's voice, since they hadn't heard her come downstairs.

"Mia, when did you get back down here?"

"Just now. I did some thinking, and I remembered some charms I made a few years before I met you guys, when I was practicing my book magic. They make the wearer immune to most magic, not including more powerful spells and the magic of the charm's creator. However, you should still be able to call your sub- and full armors, which I recommend if Jared uses his magic in an attempt to indirectly harm you." Mia handed each of the guys a charm, and put one around White Blaze's neck. "Wouldn't wanna risk losing you either, Blaze," she said when the tiger looked at her questioningly.

"Thanks, Mia," Ryo said, putting his charm on. "We'll do everything we can to help you."

"I appreciate it, guys. Now-" Mia was cut off by a strange, almost reptilian roar from outside. It was followed by a deep, gravelly voice.

"Send me the Ronin of Strata!" "Help me, Jared!"
