Fan's Insight on Voltes V
A Lot of Childhood Memories Nick J. Dee
I have totally forgotten about Voltes 5 as I got older. But all of that
changed last week when my younger brother told me that he's got all 40
epesodes of my all time favorite super robot hero. After hearing the good
news I suddenly felt this excitement, a feeling of being a kid again. I
could not wait to get my hands on them, but unfortunately it took my brother
a few days to give me the VCD's. The few days that I had to wait only built
the excitement that much greater. I took this time to tell my kids about
Voltes 5. They really could not understand what I was telling them. I
told them Voltes 5 is similar to the shows they watch on the Cartoon Network.
Shows like The transformers, Gundam and other shows of the same genre.
Finally, I got the first 20 episodes and I immediately popped the first disk
into my DVD player. As soon as I heard the opening theme song I felt like a
kid again, that seven year old boy in the mid 1970's, glued to the t.v.
watching his very first episode of Voltes 5. Seeing Voltes 5 once again
brought back a lot of childhood memories. One of 'em is getting all my
chores done right away so I'll be on time for the start of the show. I
would invite my friends over so I'll have company watching it. After the
show me and my friends will re-enact that days episode. Also, seeing Jaime
Robinson for the first time in 25 years is really wonderful, I could not
believe myself that I had a crush on her, but then again what young boy
wouldn't. The rivalry between Steve and Mark is also great to see again.
The really big surprise to me is the interests my kids have developed for the
series. I never expected them to like Voltes 5 at all just the fact that
the animation technology back in those days was so primitive compare to
todays technology. The only drawback to my kids is the way the show was
dubbed, the English accent on some of the characters are so thick they
couldn't understand them. I had some difficulty understanding some of the
phrases and words myself but who cares, as long as I enjoy Voltes 5 I don't
give a ____ (four letter word) what language is used I will still watch it.
We just recently finished the 20th episode and we look forward to finishing
the Voltes 5 series with a lot of enthusiasm.
It's nice to know that there is a website truly dedicated in keeping the
legacy of Voltes 5 alive. More power and "LET'S VOLT IN".
